Remittances from the Dominion to New Zealanders serving overseas with the naval and air forces are now subject to the limit of £2O a year (New Zealand currency) that was imposed last May on remittances to members of the New Zealand Exepeditionary Force. Under the procedure previously announced by the Minister of Finance, Mr. W. Nash, applying to money for men of the Expeditionary Force, sums sent to members of naval and air forces must be in multiples of £l. These remittances to New Zealanders had been subject to Reserve Bank permits as in the case of members of the general public. The reason for the previous distinction between members of the two services and those in the New Zealand Exepeditionary Force is not clear, so that the removal of the anomaly has not come as a great surprise. It has, however, produced irritation among relatives and others who desire to send money to men in the naval and air forces particularly as exchange is deducted from every £1 deposited for remittance. There has already been some complaint against the limitation imposed on remittances to members of' the Expeditionary Force, and chambers of commerce have urged that it should be increased to £5O. Mr. Nash said any extension would have to be at the expense Of imports.
