JUNIOR MILE RECORD [PER press association.] CHRISTCHURCH, December 8. D. Shaw (University) broke the New Zealand junior mile record in a special attempt at Rugby Park on Saturday. His time was 4.30 2-5. The old record which he himself held, was 4.35 2-5. His run was the high-light of the weekly handicap meeting, at which several good early-season performances were recorded. Other prominent competitors included J. H. Opie (Army), who put the shot more than 38ft, K. J. Morgan, the New Zealand junior shot and discus‘champion, who put the light shot 41ft 4 jin, M. Carr (Technical), who won the junior long jump with 21ft 9 jin,'and H. W. Wilkins, New. Zealand long jump champion, who cleared more than 22ft.
. OTAGO 'MARATHON DUNEDIN, December 8. There were seven starters in the Otago marathon championship of 26 miles 385 yards, held at Mosgiel on Saturday, but only two finished. The result was:—G. L. Austin, 2hrs 58min lOsec, 1; F. Crooke, 3hrs. 14min. 43sec 2.
