A cablegram from Berlin announced the death on Thursday of the violinist, Jan Kubelik. He was aged 60 years.

Mr J. A. Gilmour, Industrial Magistrate, will arrive this afternoon, from Wellington. This evening he will preside at the meeting of the tribunal concerning the Ngahere dredge dispute.

Miss Margaret Samuel, principal of the Avonside Girls’ High School, has been appointed principal of the Christchurch Girls’ High School. Mr. Charles A. Noble, first assistant at the Christchurch West High School, has been appointed principal there.

Mr. P. J. Halligan was appointed registrar to the Christchurch Technical College Board of Governors at its monthly meeting last evening, in succession to Mr. W. H. Joyce, who has held the position for the past 23 years and is shortly to retire.

A Melbourne cablegram announced that probate has been granted of the wills of the two Federal Ministers killed in the air crash at Canberra on August 13. Mr. James Fairbairn, former Minister left real and personal estate in Victoria valued at £78,816, apart from his assets in New South Wales and Queensland. Sir Henry Gullett, the former Minister of Information, left £13,265.

The marriage took place recently at St. John’s Church, Napier, of Sybil Mary, only daughter of the Rev. Canon W. G. Williams and Mrs Williams, Napier Terrace, and the Rev. Samuel Edward Woods, second son of the Right Rev. E. S. Woods, Bishop of Lichfield, England, and Mrs Woods. Archbishop West Watson, Primate of New Zealand, performed the ceremony, and was assisted by the Right Rev. F. A. Bennett, Bishop of Aotearoa, and the Rev. J. B. Brocklehurst, Dean of Waiapu. The bride wore a trained frock of deep magnolia French embossed cloque and long veil of cut tulle, and was attended by Misses Mary Rice, Jean Williams, and Myra Williams. Scarlet velvet sashes, matching their scarlet satin shoes, their bouquets, and the scarlet rosebuds in their hair, trimmed their frocks of deep cream chiffon mounted on cream watered satin. Rev. John Wilson was best man, and the ushers were Rev. Neville Drake (Hastings), Rev. Merlin Davies (Christchurch), Messrs David Williams, Peter Williams, and John, Gerard. The Rev. and Mrs S. E. Woods will make their home at Ross.
