COBDEN NOTES
[OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] The monthly meeting of the Cobden School Committee was held last evening, Mr S. Alderson (chairman) presiding over the following: Messrs J. Haddock (secretary), W. Coom, E. Brailsford, S. Hayden, C. Brown and V. Montgomery. The Education Board wrote, giving information regarding cost-of-living bonus for caretakers. Miss C. E. Newman wrote, resigning her position as assistant mistress, and thanking the committee for the co-operation between committee and staff. Mr C. Brown wrote, resigning his position as a member of the committee, owing to his leaving the district.—Accepted with regret. Accounts amounting to £ 5/2/5 were passed for payment. The headmaster reported that the attendance had been 219.2 out of an average roll of 233, or 94 per cent. The Joseph P. Firth Scholarship would be • available this year, and preliminary steps had been taken.
The collectors for the clinic reported that up to the present a good response had been made by residents. The collection will be completed next week. The prize-giving concert was fixed for Tuesday, Decembei’ 17, and arrangements were made for the breakup on the following day. On behalf of the staff, the headmaster conveyed seasonal greetings to committee members, and these were reciprocated.
