EXPORTS EXCESS. WELLINGTON, December 5. The'overseas trade figures, excluding specie, for New Zealand, for October, 1940, were:—Exports, £4,818,000; imports, £4,011,000; excess of exports, £807,000. The figures for ,1939, with those for 1938 in parentheses, were:—Exports, £3,907,000 (£2,165,000); imports, £3,330,000 (£4,270,000); excess of ' exports, £577,000 (£2,105,000 excess of .imports). The figures for the 10 months ended October, 1940, were:— Exports, £62,256,000; imports, £42,319,000; excess of exports, £ 19,937,000. The figures for the same period, 1939, with those for 1938 in parentheses, were:— Exports, £51,383,000 (£50,262,000); imports, £43,454,000 (£45,874,000); and excess of exports, £7,929,000 £4,388,000).
RESERVE BANK. i Decrease in demand liabilities to the State of £184,556 and to the banks of £348,920 were among principal , changes in the return of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand for the week ending December 2. Other demand .liabilities.rose by £165,521. ; The note issue increased by £156,,182. Sterling exchange decreased by ■ £130,136.

MINING RETURNS. RIMU FLAT. The weekly return to December 3 was 121] ounces from 36,736 yards in 420 hours 53 minutes. For the month of November, the total realisation was < 509.42 ounces of gold from 167,064 yards in 520 hours 21 minutes. GREY RIVER. Wash-up this week realised 280.4 'ounces of gold from 77,706 yards in 132] hours. November realisation was ' 839.68 ounces from 335,642 yards in ■,504] hours.
j MOLYNEUX. The Molyneux Company’s dredge recently began operations in the Ka■warau river, and for the period ended November 19 recovered 201 ounces of jgold. 1 • AUSTRAL- NEW ZEALAND CHRISTCHURCH, December 6. ' .. The Austral-New Zealand dredge recovered 1097 ounces of bullion from 269,000 yards in 414 hours.
