MAN-POWER COMMITTEE

CHRISTCHURCH APPEALS [per press association.] CHRISTCHURCH, December 5. Twenty-one priests and theological students, and 10 police constables were among the men for whom appeals were put before the Appeal Board of the Christchurch Manpower Committee to-day. The board consisted of Messrs J. ' S. Barnett (chairman), S. L. Wright, and H. McCaw. Captain G. H. Anderson and Captain J. D. Hutchison represented the military authorities. Appeals by the Roman Catholic Bishop of Christchurch for the following persons were adjourned sine die: Francis Michael McKay (theological student), Thomas McKeon, Patrick Madden, Declan Maher, Oliver Raymond Marlow, Denis Lordan, ‘Ronald Joseph O’Gorman, James Orton Hendren, Augustone Hill, Gordon Boughnan Marie O’Meeghan, Thomas Barry O’Regan, Bernard Baillie, Thomas Cornelius Bergin, Michael Burke, Thomas Joseph Cahill, Cyril Callaghan, Gordon Vincent Daly, Maurice Dowling, Gerald Gill (priests), and Bernard Joseph Locke (Marist Brother). The appeal of Russell Frederick Kenward, a divinity student, supported by the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church, was adjourned sine die. Appeals by the Director of National Service for the following police constables were adjourned sine die:— Ronald George Carons, William Coll, .George Lance Craw, Keith Owen Evans, Arthur .Conrad Edward Gillman, William James Hill, Charles Edgar Lane, James Arthur Moloney, Edward Clifford Ross, David Alfred Yandle. , The appeal of the Seamen’s Union for a fisherman, Edward Alexander Dillard; was adjourned sine die.
