FLAT INVADED
ORDERED FROM OWN PREMISES S SYDNEY, Nov. 18. A woman resident of Stanley Street Randwick, who returned unexpectedly from a visit to Melbourne early last night was amazed to find a large and hilarious party in progress in the flat she had carefully locked up before her departure. She was more amazed still when, on entering her flat, some of the “guests” informed her that she “hadn’t been asked to the party and wasn’t wanted.” Then she saw some of the girl “guests” busily taking fur coats and frocks from her wardrobe, and gleefully trying them on. She called the police. The Western Wireless Patrol, with Detective-Sergeant Lenehan in charge found a mixed party of boys and girls, mostly between the ages of 14 and 16. By this time, they were very shamefaced. They. admitted that one of their number, a girl, who knew that the occupier of the flat was ab-
sent in Melbourne, organised the party. They had obtained some whisky and beer to make the party more realistic, and some had been drinking. To make an entry into the flat one lad took off his shoes and climbed a drainpipe to the first floor. He let the others into the premises, and at about 5 p.m. the party began. z It ceased suddenly about half an hour later when the occupier of the flat returned. The police took names and addresses, but in the meantime the aggrieved woman had seen the humour of the situation, and she decided to take no action. After the police had given members of the party some good advice, they were allowed to go. The woman was greatly relieved to find that a sum of £25, which she had hidden in a room of the flat, had not been disturbed.
