Miss L. Fahey left, to-day, on return to Christchurch. Miss J. Aitken left, to-day, on return to Wellington. _ .. Mr. E. Howell left, to-day, on a visit to Auckland. Lieutenant E. A. Fairman left, today, on return to Wellington. Mrs. T. Milne left, to-day, on return to Christchurch. Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Black, of Cobden,.left for Dunedin, to-day, on holiday. Mr. J. Bourke, Boddytown, who has been seriously ill, will be discharged from hospital to-morrow. Mr. E. Elphick, District Superintendent for the Department of Agriculture, will arrive, to-day, from Christchurch. Guests at Revingtons Hotel include: Mr and Mrs D. Duncan, Mr A. E. Stock (Christchurch); Mr J. H. Mason, Mr R. D. Welsh (Wellington); Mr P. H. Noble (Nelson). A London cablegram stated that Mr. Ernest Brown was elected to the leadership of the Liberal Nationals, from which Sir J. Simon resigned on entering the Lords. Mr. Hore Belisha was re-elected as Chairman. A London cablegram stated that Captain P. L. Vian, commander of H.M.S. Cossack, has been awarded a bar to the Distinguished Service Order he won for the part he took in the rescue of British sailors from the Altmarck in February. Mr E. E. Smellie, of Dunedin, has been appointed Department of Agriculture Apiary Instructor for the Nelson-Marlborough-West Coast district, with headquarters at Greymouth. Mr Smellie, who replaces Mr C. R. Paterson, transferred to Hamilton some months ago, took up his duties yesterday.
Mr. E. B. C. Murray, District Land Registrar at Hokitika left, to-day, on transfer to Wellington. He was met prior to his departure by the Greymouth Law Society and made the recipient of a presentation. The presentation was made by Mr. J. W. Hannan, who congratulated Mr. Murray on his promotion and wished him success.
