REEFTON NOTES

[OUE OWN CORRESPONDENT.] L REEFTON, December 4. Messrs C. Nevin and J. B. Auld . J’s.P. presided at a sitting of the , Magistrate’s Court yesterday. C. H. Friend was charged with driving a motor car and having no warrant of fitness. He was convicted and fined 10/- with costs 10/-. Albert J. Peard for a similar offence wSs convicted and fined 10/- with costs 12/-. Lorenzo Kirwin for having no motor driver’s license when riding a motor cycle was fined 10/-, with costs 12/-. Lyell R. Woolf, for riding a motor cycle and not being the holder of a motor cyclist’s license, was fined 5/- with costs 12/-. Thomas R. Watson was charged with allowing 11 head of stock to wander, on the highway. Defendant pleaded not guilty, and the information was dismissed. Robt. Craig (Mr. Patterson) was charged with being intoxicated while in charge of a motor car. Defendant pleaded guilty. Sergt. Ebbett stated that the prosecution arose out of a motor car collision which occurred on the ReeftonMaruia Road on November 30. Defendant, who was proceeding home, was travelling on the incorrect side of the road and he collided with a motorcar driven by Dr. Rutherford. The occupants of both cars did not suffer any serious injury though both cars were damaged, one severely. Defendant was brought to Reef ton when it was found that he was under the influence of liquor, a doctor having certified to this effect. Defendant was convicted and fined £l5, his current driver’s license was cancelled,, and he was debarred from holding a driver’s license for a further period of two years.
