CHRISTCHURCH. CHRISTCHURCH, December 1. Although customs duty again shows a considerable decrease, the total revenue collected by the Customs Department at Christchurch during November is substantially larger than that for the corresponding month last year. Total receipts were £196,076, compared with £179,402 last year. A similar position is disclosed in the comparative returns for the first eight months of the financial year. DUNEDIN. DUNEDIN, December 1. The customs returns for November show a slight drop of approximately £6OO compared with last year. Beer duty for the period also declined by a little more than £lOOO. Sales tax receipts’ however, advanced by more than £2OOO. Reduced petrol consumption had an effect on the amount received in petrol tax, which was £3OOO less than for November of last year. Customs for November, 1940, were £45,600 (November, 1939, £46,185); beer, £29,266 (£40,373); sales tax, £31,225 (£28,966); gold, £1567 (£722); tyres, £245 (£414); petrol, £12,122 (£15,146); export levies: Wool, £63 (£1); hides, £1 (nil); war expenses, £41,852 (£9987); miscellaneous, £l3B (£309). Totals, £172,066 ( £142,101).

AUCKLAND. AUCKLAND, December 1. The amount of November customs duty received at Auckland decreased considerably when compared with November, 1939. Detailed figures follow, last November returns being in parentheses:—Customs, £222,625 (£277,566); mqtor spirit, £55,707 (£74,031); tyre duty, £7lB (£492). The total fot the last 11 months is £3,532,924 compared with £4,030,633 for the corresponding period last year. Excise duty on beer for November was £29,441, as compared with £26,171 in 1939. Sales tax totalled £101,401 compared with £92,640, and the war expenses account for November was £111,934, compared with £15,234.

WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, December 1.
