N.S.W. DROUGHT BROKEN. [by CABLE. —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] SYDNEY, December 1. New South Wales has generally benefited from heavy and continuous rain over the week-end. Several inches has fallen in Sydney’s catchment area. There are wide hopes that the Sydney drought has now ended. The Metropolitan Water Board, however, has announced that until there is further evidence that the drought has actually ended, this rain will only mean that no further restrictions on the use of water will be imposed. The rain has come too late to benefit the wheat crops, but to the dairying industry and vegetable growers the value of the rain is incalculable.

DESTROYER LAUNCHED. SYDNEY, December 1. The first of three “Tribal” class destroyers destined for the Australian Navy, was launched at the Cockatoo Yards, Sydney, on Saturday. These vessels will be named after Australian tribes, carrying on a custom set for this efficient wellproved class, which includes such famous names as “Cossack,” and Afridi” amongst its numbers.
