[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] . JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES DUNEDIN, November 29. Three Jehovah’s Witnesses who appeared in Court this afternoon, charged with participating in the activities of a subversive organisation, were each sentenced to two months’ imprisonment. They were George Edward Crellin, Leslie Raymond Franks and James Ernest Patterson. Crellin asked for leave to appeal. The Magistrate asked upon what grounds he wished to appeal. They had all admitted that they were members of this organisation. They would be given the opportunity to consult a solicitor if they so desired. Each man when directly asked, refused to cease carrying on his activities.

WATERSIDER DROWNED. CHRISTCHURCH, November 29. Falling into the harbour from No. 6 wharf, Thomas Walton, a waterside worker, aged 29 years, was drowned. Walton was sitting, dh a tarpaulin, at the edge of the. wharf during the dinner hour when he slipped and fell between, the wharf and the ship’s side. . . Rescuers were lowered into the water, but Walton had sunk. Dragging operations failed to recover the body. Walton lived in Lyttelton, and came from Motueka about two years ago. WOMAN RESCUED. CHRISTCHURCH, November 29. A middle-aged woman, Mrs. A. Myers, of 165 North Avoh Road, had a narrow escape from. drowning at the Waimairi beach this afternoon. She was seen lying in shallow water about a mile north of the Waimairi Beach Surf Club pavilion about. 4.30 p.m. by two women who happened to be walking along the beach, and was immediately brought ashore in a very serious condition. Assistance was given and artificial respiration was applied later by six pupils of the Cathedral Grammar School. A New Brighton doctor who attended the accident said that their work was • responsible for Mrs. Myers’s life being saved.
