PARLIAMENT

NEXT WEEK’S BUSINESS [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, November 29. Before the House rose at 6.20 p.m. until 2.30 p.m. on Tuesday, the Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) gave an outline of the business for next week. On Tuesday the Sea Carriage of Goods Bill, Mokau Harbour and Agricultural Emergency Regulations Confirmation Bill will be taken. It is also hoped to introduce a Finance Bill. On Tuesday night there will be I a discussion on the Marketing Report. On Wednesday .there will be discussion on two petitions and the Finance Bill. On Thursday afternoon, the Waitara Harbour Bill will be discussed in the afternoon, and the secret session will be taken at night and on Friday there would be a discussion, on the War Regulations. That would be the end of the session unless something of an unex’pected nature cropped up in the meantime. Mr. Polson gave notice to ask the Prime Minister whether he had read a report in the Press, that the New Zealand manufacturers, at their annual conference this week, had decided to draw the Government’s attention to the “serious loss in produc - tion arising out of the irregular attendance of workers at their employment,” often for very trivial reasons, and he would also ask what action the Government intended to adopt in regard to it., Mr. Fraser said that he would like to answer the question immediately,

and he drew attention to the danger in war-time of members picking up ex parte statements and putting them across as ascertained facts. He considered that the complaint related to girl workers, and anyone with an! elementary knowledge of industrial) factors knew that special conditions applied to them. Of course, if the accusation related to men absenting themselves, there was no excuse for them whatever.
