NATIONAL PARTY
COUNCIL’S RESOLUTIONS. [per press association.] WELLINGTON, November. 30. Confidence in the future of New Zealand was expressed by Mr. Holland, at the reception given him, last night, by the Dominion Council of the National Party. He said: This is the Dominion’s great opportunity. All class barriers are being broken down by the war, and men are mixing together, in the same ships, the same hutments and the same battles. The result is that those on the lower rungs of the ladder would be able to look forward to the future with greater confidence than ever they could before. It meant that new standards would be established throughout the community. He was convinced that so far they had -not so much as scratched the surface of New Zealand’s productive capacity. On the preceding day, he had counted up the days they had worked this month—only 18 days. New Zealand would have to acquire the art of hard work.
On the occasion of Mr. Churchill’s sixty-sixth birthday, to-day, the Dominion Council of the New Zealand National Party forwarded the following cablegram: “The New Zealand National Party, the Parliamentary Opposition, extend birthday felicitations, and express profound admiration foi' your inspiring leadership of the Empire, and the spirit of the British people, and also confidence in ultimate victory.” A resolution congratulating Mr. Hamilton on his services to the Party and New Zealand, was passed at the meeting of the Council, which also endorsed the appointment of Mr. Holland as the new leader.. The council passed this resolution: “This Council expresses to National Party Members of Parliament, appreciation of their action in opposing some clauses in the Small Farms Amendment Bill, which conflict with the principles for which the Party stands.”
