Auckland. December 28—Westland.

Dictate Lame: Dictate was again Jame after a good gallop yesterday, at Riccarton, and it is doubtful whether he will race at Ashburton. L. J. Ellis had been engaged to ride him, but will now be available for Wardress.

Trip Cancelled: The proposed trip to Ellerslie from Riccarton with Salutation has been cancelled, and she and her stable-mate Not Out will now probably be raced in the south during the holiday period.

Wardress:

Wardress is an Auckland Cup candidate, but a definite decision as to. whether the Lord Warden mare will make the trip will be made after her race at Ashburton to-morrow.

Merit Emphasised: The merit of the achievement of Enrich in winning the C.J.C. Stewards’ Handicap and New Zealand Derby is emphasised when it is taken into consideration that he was a late foal and that he will not attain his third year until December 24.

Queen Beth: Queen Beth, who went amiss after racing well at Central Otago meetings in the Autumn when trained by her owner, is back at F. Trilford’s, and is likely to run at Ashburton to-morrow. It was on this course that she earned her first success. Waitaka: The Robespierre-Mazurka gelding, Waitaka, owned by Mr. C. L. Kettle, of Greymozith, was left at Riccarton in charge of J. B. Pearson, after the Cup meeting, and has done well since. He will probably have a race in the Knight Memorial at Hororata next month, but will be returned to his owner for the West Coast Christmas and New Year circuit. Density: Density who was a disappointment at the Wellington and Riccarton Spring meetings will be put -into more serious work again soon, in preparation for the Wellington January meeting. She has been given an easy time since racing at Riccarton. This brilliant mare has previously been off colour in the Spring, and she may come back to her best for the Trentham meeting. Foxola: Her win in the Pupuke Handicap marked the fifth, consecutive success scored by Foxola. She is a black filly by Foxbridge-Aureola, by Hunting Song-Azure Sky, by Kilboy-Golden Sky, by San Fran, and belongs to the same family as Silver Clarion. The Cambria Handicap winner, Silver Clarion, is a bay gelding by Hunting Song-Camp Princess, by ThespianQueen of the Earth, by General Latour, and runs back to the Fisherman-Juliet taproot. Trotting MEETINGS TO COME. , November 30, December 7—Waikato. December 7—New Brighton T.C. December 21—Reefton. December 26.—Ashburton. December 26—Gore. December 26, 27—Westport. December 27, 28, 31—Auckland. December 28—Winton. Won Over £3,500: Sandusky has now started in 61 races for nine wins, 13 seconds, and nine thirds, his stake winnings amounting to £3,585. Another: It is reported that the judging affair is not the only incident at Forbury that will be reported to the Trotting Association. The starter, Mr. A. J. Hastings, is understood to have lodged a complaint against one of the stewards, says a southern exchange. New Record: For some time Cavan Chief with 2.6, held the world record for a mile in saddle, but two months ago the champion trotter, Greyhound, did 2.1?. He was accompanied by a pacemaker and was ridden by Mrs. F. D. Johnstone. Greyhound trotted the first quarter mile in 30£sec, the next quarter in. 30? sec, the six furlong post was passed in 1.31?-, and the last quarter was run in 30sec. Northern Trip: It is not often that the Ashhurst trainer J. A. Gerrard takes a team of horses north without collecting at leqst .some share of the stake-money, and therefore a good deal of interest centres in the 'respective displays of First Call and . Short Wave at the Waikato Meeting to-morrow and Monday. Short Wave ik one of the most promising trotters bred in the North Island for some years, and a line to his ability is furnished by the fact that his last five starts have furnished four firsts. Seeing that he now comes from 12yds at Claudelands, it is difficult to forecast his defeat. First Call is an improving maiden who, 1 had already been placed on the course, and he should pay expenses on the trip.
