FARMS SEIZED
HAD BEEN NEGLECTED. * LONDON, July 27. The British Government, as part of its Grow More Food Campaign, has seized 450 farms and building sites in England and Wales. Totalling 32,450 acres,. they have been taken over by County War Agricultural Executive Committees, acting as agents for the Ministry of Agriculture. The farms were being neglected, mismanaged or badly farmed. They have now been let to capable men who are putting them into maximum production. The building sites were undeveloped and weed-ridden; they will now be used for growing food. All the land taken over may remain in the possession of the Ministry until three years after the end. of the war. Average area of- the commandeered farms is about 70" acres, which would suggest that small men are the greatest offenders. In Gloucestershire, however, one farm of 600 acres has been seized.
