INFANTILE PARALYSIS
■ SWEDISH DOCTOR’S CLAIM [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] STOCKHOLM, September 18. Dr. Karl L. King, chief of the Swedish State Bacteriological Research, reports that he has successfully isolated the virus of infantile paralysis. He concluded . that the infection spreads chiefly indirectly, like typhoid, dysentery, and cholera, and rarely, directly as a result of personal contact. The live virus was' found in butter made with contaminated water. ..... ; N.Z. DOCTOR’S COMMENT .. ' DUNEDIN,; September 20. Commenting on the Stockholm cablegram in regard to infantile par.-' alysis, Dr. Hercus said that, while the facts stated by Dr. Kling were impor-* tant, there was clear evidence, so far as New Zealand was concerned, that personal contact was the* chief cause of.the spread of the disease. Dr. Kling was ( perhaps inclined to over-em-phasise the new facts, and it would be a serious 'mistake to accept the position as applyihg to New Zealand.
