FAT SHEEP DEARER. [per press association.] CHRISTCHURCH, September 19. i Although the entry was larger than ; at the previous sale, fat sheep were ’ keenly sought at yesterday’s Addingi ton market, at prices about 2/- a head up on last week. The fat cattle ’ sale 'was inclined to be erratic, but the best beef was fully up to recent . rates. All sorts of store sheep met another firm and strong sale. t Store Sheep: The quality of the [ entry qf 2000 head was good, - and i prices were a shade better all round. . A truck-lot of ewe hoggets made ; 32/3, with other good pens at 29/3 and 28/4, medium lines to 24/3, and rather rough crossbred ewe hoggets ; from the West Coast at 20/-. Good ' wether hoggets made to 18/9, with ; average sorts at 15/8.; A truck lot of sound-mouthed halfbred ewes, near ' to lambing, went at 27/-. Older ' ewes in fair order made 14/7, with the best of the small selection of ewes and lambs to 13/3, all counted. The best of the wethers sold at 26/-. Fat Sheep: There was a keen demand for a patchy entry of about 3000 head, and there was a strong sale from the outset at values about 2/- a head above those of last week. Values were: Extra prime heavy wethers, to 53/10; prime heavy wethers, 47/- to 51/-; prime mediumweight Wethers, 44/- to 46/6; ordinary wethers, 39/- to 43/-; light wethers, to 38/6-; extra prime heavy ewes, to 53/1; prime heavy ewes, 42/- to 45/6; prime medium-weight ewes, 35/- to 41/6; ordinary ewes, 30/- to 34/6; light ewes, 22/- to 29/6. Fourteen good Spring lambs were offered. The best sold at prices equivalent to about 14d per lb, top price being 40/4. Fat Cattle: The entry was much larger than last week, comprising 388 head. Although late entries caused a slight easing, prices were fully up to those of last week, and some of thevbetter steers and heifers were 10/- a head dearer. Good beef was worth 52/6 per 1001 b., with the best up to 57/6 and in cases 60/-. Values were: Extra prime' heavy steers, to £25/7/6; prime heavy steers, £lB/10/- to £22/10/-; prime medium-weight steers, £l6 to £lB 10/-; ordinary steers, £ll/10/- to £l5/10/-; light steers, to £11; extra prime heifers, to £2l/7/6; prime heifers, £l4 to £ 17; medium heifers, £lO to £l3/10/-; light heifers, to £9/15/-; extra prime cows, to £l7 12/6; prime cows, £lO/10/- to £l4; medium cows, £B/10/- to £10; light cows, to £B. J. H. Jackson (Jacksons) sold 2 steers at £7/2/6 and £lO/12/6, and a cow at £B/7/6. Vealers: Owing to a large yarding, small calves met with a dragging sale, with values down by 7/- to 8/- a head. Large runners showed no change. Values were: Large runners, to £lO/6/-; medium runners, £5/15/- to £7/13/6; best vealers, to £5/3/6; medium vealers, £3/5/to £4/13/6; large calves, £2/5/- to £3/3/-; medium calves, 33/- to 47/-; small calves, 10/- to 28/-. Store Cattle: There was a good demand for all quality cattle, but the inquiry was slacker for the secondary sorts. Best three-year steers made to £lO/8/6, three-year steers in ordinary condition to £9/6/-; 18months heifers to £5/18/6, fresh cows‘for fattening to £5/15/-, medium cows, £4/5/- to £4/15/-; and aged and inferior to £2/10/-. Dairy Cattle: Although most of the yarding was in low condition, there was a good sale. Best second, third,' and fourth calvers made £8 to £lO 10/-, medium fi-om £6 to £7/15/-, and aged and inferior £4 to £5/5/-. Best heifers made from £8 to £ll, medium from £6 to £7/5/-, and backward to £5/5/-. Fat Pigs: The yarding of porkers was one the largest for some time, and in the middle stages of the sale heavy and over-fat pigs eased by 3/to 4/- a head. Choppers were also in heavy supply, and eased by 10/a head. Baconers were easier by about 2/- a head. Values were: Choppers, £2/13/6 to £6/13/6; light porkers, 52/6 to 58/6; medium porkers, 59/6 to £3/3/6; heavy porkers, £3/4/6 to £3/7/6; extra heavy porkers, £3/8/6 to £3/10/6; average price per lb, 8d to 9|d; light baconers, £3/9/6 to £3/17/6; medium baconers, £3/19/6 to £4/7/6; heavy baconers, £4/9/6 to £4/16/6; extra heavy baconers, £5/2/6 to £5/11/6; average price per lb, 7ld to Bd. Store Pigs: With a small entry, all classes met with a good sale, except plain and small weaners. Pedigree Tamworth boars, five months old, made 3j- to 6|gns. Values were: • Small weaners, 16/- to £1; medium weaners, 21/- to 24/-; good weaners, to 28/-; slips, 30/- to 34/6; small stores, 37/- to .40/-; medium stores, 42/- to 46/-; large stores, to 52/-.
