OVERSEAS SACRIFICES

LORD CALDECOTE’S PRAISE. [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.I (Recd. Sept. 18, 12.35 p.m.) LONDON, September 17. Lord Caldecote, in the’ Lords, said that the inclusion of almost the whole of Europe in the war zone had deprived the Dominions of many valuable markets. He added: “I must pay a .tribute to the Dominions, for their unselfish readiness to modify their plans and organisation to meet the needs of the United Kingdom, though it may be to the prejudice of their wealth. It must not be thought that the contribution by the Dominions has been achieved without stress or strain, or that they are enjoying benefits without corresponding financial sacrifice. Each has freely made a very large expenditure in resolute support of the common cause. This has undoubtedly imposed a great and increasing burden on their budgets, involving the people in many sacrifices, but these have been met without complaining, indeed with enthusiasm.”
