BARRYTOWN NOTES
[OUB OWN CORRESPONDENT.] The fortnightly euchre and dance held in aid of the Patriotic .Fund on Saturday evening last, proved a financial success. The winners of the euchre prizes were Mrs B. Russell and Mr T. Ryall. The consolation prizes went to Mrs Greer and Mr Gardyne. A home-made supper was served by the women’s comftiittee. Mrs Greer and Fischer Brothers supplied the music for the dance. Mr Mercer, Field Instructor, visited the .district last week and was to have given an address on the growing of' root crops, but owing to the apathy | of the farmers, the address did not; eventuate. Mrs V. Roud.and Messrs Fitzsimmons, who have been residents of the district for many years, leave this week to reside in Greymouth. Mr Jellie (Arahura) is acting Dredge-master at Barrytown Gold Dredge, while Mr T. Gillooly is on holiday. ■ Mr Owen Coyne (Christchurch) I was .a visitor here yesterday. I. Pte. P. J. Wafer, who has been an inmate of the .Greymouth Hospital, has returned home.
