(OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT. J ' REEFTON, September 16. Blackspoint residents organised a concert for patriotic funds, and on Saturday night played in Black’s Hall to a capacity house. The programme was enjoyable and encores were numerous. The items were:—Opening chorus,, the Company; song, Miss Melva McHenry; comedy trio, Messrs. C. Hunt, W. Nicholls-.and Mrs. Dobson: numbers by the - Tiny Tots; piano accordeon solo, Mrs. W. Nicholls; humorous sketch, “Lipstick”; duet, Miss M. McHenry and Mr. R. Bolitho; Miss Alma McHenry and Ballet; tap dance, Miss Moya Crossan; monologue, Miss Elaine Nicholls; scene, the Nigger Minstrels; chorus, the Company; Sailor’s Hornpipe, the Galway Sisters; song, Mrs. W. Nicholls; dialogue, “The Photographer,” “Grandma Said,” Mai't and Valmai Nicholls; recitation, Mr. F. Millar; item, the Rocky Mountaineers; song and tap dance, Miss M. Galway; “Forever I’ll Remember,” Miss M. McHenry; song and patter, Messrs. C. Hunt and W. Nicholls; scene, “Songs of Hawaii,” _ “Goodnight,” the Company. •The County Council chairman, Mr. John O’Regan, received the following telegram from Mr. Webb, Minister for Mines, in reply to his message asking that work be provided for the men who have been put off from district coal mines: “Received your telegram, and was pleased to arrange immediate enquiries regarding the men referred to. Matter will have urgent consideration when necessary information is available.” At a meeting of the Reefton Bowling Club yesterday afternoon, Mr. C. Willis presiding, it was resolved to endorse the action of the Centre, in that only the champions of the respective clubs be allowed to play in ’the three competitions Champion of '.Champion singles, pairs and rinks. ! The president pointed out that he had received the sum of £5/10/-, I subscribed for improvements to the ■ I pavilion by members, the cost of I which was about £l6. ;i Mr. F. Collis was accorded a vote jof thanks for his work in improving . the interior of the pavilion, and it was I carried that a working bee be asked to assemble at the green to commence ’ the work of painting the iron fence. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr. i F. Bowes (Runanga) for representing i the club at the annual meeting of the Centre at Greymouth. , Two new members were elected.
