WRESTLING

KAT AN DEFEATS BLOMFIELD. [PER press association.] AUCKLAND, July 15. A wrestling match for the professional heavy-weight championship of the British Empire resulted in John Katan, of Canada, retaining the title by defeating the challenger, SergeantMajor “Lofty” Blomfield, by one fall. The awarding of this fall was greatly resented by a large section of the crowd, which filled the Town Hall to overflowing. CORBETT DEFEATS RAINES WELLINGTON, July 15.

In a fast bout, notable more for rough tactics than for wrestling, Joe Corbett defeated Dick Raines by'two falls at the Wellington Town Hall tonight! Corbett’s first fall was a penalty awarded in the fifth round when Raines refused to allow him to come back into the ring after knocking him out of it. As Corbett tried to negotiate the ropes, Raines checked him with a knee in the face. The second fall came in the next round when Corbett thumped, dumped, and pinned Raines at the conclusion of a melee with their fists.
