MURDER CHARGE.

AUCKLAND, June 28.

Charged with the murder of Rama Khushal, at Huntly, on May 18, John Kite, a Maori, 23, appeared in the Police Court. He was represented by Mr. George Skelton. On the application of the police, Mr..Levien, S.M., remanded Kite to apear at Huntly on July 4.

INTEREST-FREE LOANS WELLINGTON, June 28.

Interest-free loans and donations received to date by the Government total £2,237,046, including a loan of £25,000 from the Colonial Sugar Refining Company, Auckland, for the duration, and £5OOO from the Invercargill Savings Bank, for the duration and six months.

KILLED BY EARTH. HASTINGS, June 28/

John Pallesen, 23, was killed by a fall of earth on his father’s farm at Haumoana, yesterday. Deceased was working with his father and brother in the construction of a dam in the hilly country when suddenly a fall of earth occurred, which engulfed John Pallesen. Death was instantaneous.

Reserved judgment was given by Mr. Justice Blair in the Supreme Court in dismissing the appeal by Perry Hubert Meuli against his conviction in the Magistrate’s Court of a breach of section 23 of the Medical Practitioners Act that, not being registered, he practised a branch of medicine and surgery under a name or title implying he held a diploma or degree or was otherwise specially qualified to practise. His Honor said that the evidence showed that the appellant held himself out as an endocrinologist, and practised in rooms on which were door plates inscribed “Endocrinologist, glands, nerves, mental disorders,” and “Psycho-analyst, endocrinologist, and mind, nerves, and glands.” It was also shown that he charged a woman patient seven guineas for treatment. The appeal was dismissed with seven guineas costs.
