The Civil Aeronautics Authority granted the Pan-American Airways, a license for the route between San Francisco to Auckland, via Los Angeles, Honolulu, Canton and Noumea. The airline journey will occupy 4% days, starting on the basis of one round trip fortnightly. It will include passengers, freight and mail.. The ship, with which the services start, is the American Clipper, at present refitting at New York.

Mr Hudson Fysh, managing director of Qantas Airways, said that the Empire flying-boat service 1 is being reorganised, “in conformity with prearranged plans to maintain the air connection between England and Australia in the event of war with Italy.”
