BODY RECOVERED

AUCKLAND, May 5.

The body of one of the three naval ratings who disappeared when their 14ft-yacht capsized in the channel between Tiritiri and Whangaparaoa peninsula. on April 17, was found on the rocks at the eastern end of the peninsula. It was identified as that of Signal man James William Dallow, of Wellington. Dallow and the other two rat-ings-r—Ordinary Signalman William Ryan, of Ellerslie, and Ordinary Signalman Desmond Waite, of One Tree Hill—were stationed at Tiritiri Island and took out the yacht during leave period.' The overturned boat was discovered the. same night by the auxiliary ketch Endeavour, which brought it back to Auckland.

KILLED BY CAR

CHRISTCHURCH, May 5

Miss Lilian Hay Forbes, aged 60. of Tai Tapu, died on Saturday evening after being struck by a motor-car at Tai Tapu. She was walking on the road and was hit by a car driven by John Manning, about 6.30 p.m. Dr. : W. A. Johnston, of Lincoln, was summoned, and he is reported to have said that death was instantaneous.

INJURIES AT PLAY

CHRISTCHURCH, May 5

Sergeant P. C. McLaughlin suffered concussion when playing for the Army Rugby team against Air Force at Lancaster Park. He was taken to the Christchurch Public Hospital by a St. John Ambulance and admitted for treatment.

K. Cameron, of 53 Lincoln Road, suffered injuries to his back while playing at Ensors Road.

G. Kissell, of 32 Burke Street, had an ankle injured while playing at Waltham Park.

A girl named Moran, .who was playing hockey in South Ilagley Park, collided with another player, receiving injuries which necessitated her admission to hospital? BOY DROWNED WHANGAREI, May 6. The evidence at the inquest bn a two-years-old Maori boy, who was found drowned in a stream near Horahora. revealed difficulties incidental to residence in an out-of-the-way district. The boy’s father, Edward Wei, went shooting, after finishing, milking. His wife later found, the boy, floating in the stream. He was dead. Strapping her two-months’-old child bn her back, she spent five hours searching for her husband.

It is a coincidence that Wei’s first wife, tjie mother of the dead boy, was found dead, floating in the stream at almost the same spot, last year. FISHING LAUNCH MISSING.

FOXTON, May 6. Anxiety is felt for the safety of the fishing launch Madge, commanded by C. Jensen, who was accompanied by A. Sands, senior and jqnior. The vessel left the Manawatu Heads on Friday morning, for the fishing grounds, and has not been seen or heard of since. She was expected on Friday night'. The weather was calm, until yesterday. CANBERRA SMASH. CANBERRA, May 5. In a car crash, three cars; were involved. One car, with eight occupants, struck the second car a. glancing blow. Then it .overturned and cai eered some two hundred yards, when- it struck -and crushed a third car.
