ALEXANDER MINERS.

[to the editor.] Sir,—Some misapprehension exists as to the status of the Alexander 1 Miners’ Union. The New Zealand Federation of Labour and the West Coast Trades’ and Labour Council wish it to be clearly understood that the Alexander Miners’ Union is recognised by all Trades Councils throughout New Zealand, and all Unions and unionists are asked to take, cognisance of that fact. Unionists may conscientiously seek and accept work at the Alexander mine, and members of the Union are entitled to, and should be shown, the same courtesy and consideration as anv other unionists in the district.

lii making this statement, the Trades’ Council and the Federation of Labour hope that any present antagonism between the Inangahua Miners’ Union and the Alexander Miners’ Union will disappear. The men now working at Alexander River are sincere unionists, and the maintenance of an attitude of hostility towards them by the Inangahua Miners’ Union can only breed disunity in the ranks of Labour, and play into the hands of the employers. The Federation of Labour’s policy of ra-organising jobs that during the depression years had become non-unionist, has been* shown by results to bo correct. There is’a striking and undeniable demonstration of its success in the Reefton district. The West Coast Trades Council confidently appeals to the unionists of the Reelton district, to fall into line with the mass of organised Labour throughout New Zealand, and adopt the policy that gets results in the interests of unionists. —Yours, etc., J. FINLAY, Secretary, West Coast Trades’ and Labour Council.
