Mr Douglas Potter, son of Mr and Mrs Charlie Potter, of Reefton, has secured a position in the Public Service. , Sister Peters, who has been in charge of the maternity ward at Inangahua Hospital for some time, has resigned,- .having been appointed matron of Darfleld Hospital. Mr R. V. McKane left Reefton on Monday morning to join the Special Forestry Battalion at Papakura Camp. On Sunday night gathered at the home of Mrs D. McKane to farewell him. Messrs E. Murcott, J Crossman and T. Brazil contributed

songs and Mr G. Crossman a recitation. Mrs G. Crossman was accompanist. Good wishes were offered to Mr McKane for a safe return home. County workmen are placing another coating of tar seal on Walshe Street from Broadway to Buller Road. A fine warm day assisted the work, and the street is showing a good surface. 1 • ‘ ■ v J I Mr A. Wells, contractor for the ( Inangahua Memorial Band Rotunda, which is being erected in King-George sth Jubilee Park has commenced work' on the structure, and has the founda- 1 tion down for the block for the base.

Better weather conditions have pre-.; vailed locally since Saturday afternoon, though there was a heavy fall of rain during the early hours of Sunday morning.

Under the war regulatibns Dalmatians living in New Zealand have not been permitted to write to then* relatives and friends in Dalmatia in their own language. This regulation has made it almost impossible for communication to be maintained. The Whangarei Chamber of Commerce took the matter up with the Government, and the chamber has now been informed that brief letters written in a legible hand will be accepted in the. Dalmatian language.
