CROQUET
WEST COAST TOURNAMENT ——- With 24 players competing, and sixty games to play, the West Coast Croquet Association’s' annual championship tournament opened, this morning, on the Makura Club’s lawns. The official opening ceremony was performed by the Mayoress, Mrs. F. A. Kitchingham. One of the lawns is not playable on account of the accumulation of rainwater on it, and up to the time the “Star” went to press, only three games had been played on the other two lawns, the heavy shoWers seriously interfering with the programme. It is unlikely that the tournament will conclude before Monday next. Results: — CHAMPIONSHIP SINGLES First life —first round: Mrs. Moss (Greymouth) defeated Mrs. - Howard (Runanga), 26/11; Mrs.' Roberts,on (Greymouth) defeated Mrs. Wilson (Runanga) 26/17. First life —second round: Mrs. McCracken (Runanga) defeated Mrs. Veale (Hokitika) 26/2.
