REEFTON NOTES
[OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
REEFTON, December 8
The Reefton Convent school pupils at their annual break-up concert in the Catholic Assembly Hall presented a fantasy, “The Mystic Mirror.” There was a large attendance, and the efforts of the children, which showed evidence of the careful coaching of the Sisters, were thoroughly enjoyed. The principal parts were played by Mary Lockington, Lily Blackadder, Peggy O’Flaherty, Betty Wicken, Ngaire Mercer, Jean Yellowlees, Bernard Crompton, Gregory Conlon, Mary August and Miss Gladys McKenzie was accompanist and an orchestra consisting of Miss Phyllis Cook. Messrs A. Loughan, H. Wicken and D. Buist provided several numbers. Farther Butler thanked all who had assisted, and congratulated the pupils on the success of the production. Mrs. Cereseto and Miss Hampson have left Reefton for Hanmer, wl;ere they will reside. Both are old residents of Reefton. Mrs.. Cereseto had conducted the local picture theatre since the death of her husband, Mr. Angelo Cereseto. The low-level sump, being put down by the Inangahua County Council at Smith Street, is down about 12 feet. A very heavy' stream of water has been struck and an electrically-driven pump and an air compressor were temporarily installed to deal with the inflow, and allow the sump to be sunk to a greater depth. Mr. P. S. Dellaca, secretary of the Reefton Business Men’s Association, has received advice from Mr. C. F. Skinner M.P. for Motueka, to the effect that on December 15, 22 and 29, late trains will be run from Reefton to Inangahua Junction, leaving Reefton on return to the Junction at 10.30 p.m.
