WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

MEETING. AT RUNA"NGA. The monthly meeting of the Runanga Women’s Institute was held last evening, in the Druids Hall. Mrs Johnson presided over a good attendance. The aspirations were read by Mrs Virtue. A lecture on “Child Psychology” was read and discussed. A parcel of goods made by the Disabled Soldiers’ Association met with ready sale. Dancing was enjoyed, the pianists being Mrs Thompson, Mrs Sweeney, and Miss Schultz. Monte Carlo, Mesdames Johnson and Lee Lucky spot, Mesdames Timlin and Timlin junr. Supper was served by the hostesses, Miss Dando, xMesdames Todd, Bell, and J. Smith.

AT KUMARA.

Mrs Reedy presided over a good attendance at. the monthly meeting of the Kumara Women’s Institute. An apology' was received from Mrs Cowan. A donation was accepted from the R.S.A. in appreciation of the assistance given to them by the members on the occasion of their reunion. Mrs Mitchell took “Elizabeth Fry” as subject for the “Golden Thread.” Mrs McNabb sang two songs and Mrs Wise played the accompaniment. Mrs Hill gave a further travel talk. Mrs Lawrence won the musical parcel, Miss Hill tw r o competitions, and Mrs Fahey the lucky seat. The opening and display of the mystery parcels caused amusement. Competitions resulted:—Best bloom. Mrs Fensom 1, Miss H. Castle 2, Miss E. Castle 3. Heaviest hen’s eggs: Mrs Fensom 1, Miss Hamer 2, •Mrs Vlack 3.
