TO-DAY'S RACING NEWS

Galloping MEETINGS TO COME. November 25, 27 —Auckland. November 25 —Otaki Maori. November 25 —Ashburton County. December 2 —Kurow (at Oamaru). December 9—Hororata. December 9, 11 —Woodville District. December 16 —Waipa. December 16—Hurunui Turf. RICCARTON NOTES. [special to “star.”] CHRISTCHURCH, November 20. Matters have been quiet at Riccarton since the New Zealand Cup meeting, but will brighten up again this week with the approach of the Ashburton County Racing Club’s Summer fixture, to take plape on Saturday. A large team of Riccarton horses will as usual assist at 'this meeting, but there has been a disappointing response from Riccarton for the Kurow meeting to be held at Oamaru, on the following Saturday. The weather has •been very dry during the past fortnight, and the use of any of the grass tracks has been out of the question. In consequence, practically all of the galoping has been done on the plough. Royal Chief has been on the easy list since the big gathering, and unless it is later decided to get him ready for the Wellington Centennial Meeting in January, he will not be asked to race again until the Autumn, when another trip to Australia may be considered. In the meantime Royal Chief is to be pottered about on the tracks, and will not be allowed to put on too much condition. Dictate was not able to.race after his creditable third placing in the) New Zealand Cup owing to meeting with a slight injury on the road on his way to contest the Jockey Club Handicap, on the second day. It was at first thought the trouble would have serious consequences, but he made a speedy recovery, and is to race at Ashburton on Saturday. Dictate, who has been trained throughout. his career by A. McAulay, is now being trainee 1 by his owner, Mr M. O’Brien, who also is supervising the work of Rebellion, owned by him and Mr S. Bennett, of Kaikoura. Rabble was another unlucky horse during the Cup meeting. He suffered a. kick at the post before the Metropolitan Handicap,'-and could not be produced later at the meeting. He had a similar experience at Trentham, so a change of luck is due to him. In all probability Rabble will be taken tc the West Coast holiday meeting with other members of C. McCarthy’s team, and Haughty Winner will be sent to the North Island, to be raced at Awapuni and other meetings under the charge of his owner, Mr T. Coltman, of Wellington. A. E.’ Ellis has decided to visit Ellerslie at Christmas and New Year, one of his first important rides being on Beau Vite in the Great Northern Derby. L. J. Ellis may also go to Ellerslie, although he has been offered some good riding at the Otago meetings. ■ Trench Fight, a six-year-old by Winning Hit —Scrimmage, has been sold by the trustees of the estate of Sir Charles Clifford to Mr W. Stubbs, a new patron of C- C. McCarthy s stable. It is probable that he will start his racing for his new owner . at the Summer meeting of the Dunedin nockey Club.
