DEATH OCCURS IN BRUSSELS
[BRITISH OFFICIAL WIRELESS.]
(Recd. Nov. 7, 11 a.m.). RUGBY, November 6.
The evening newspapers express regret at the death in Brussels, today, of Burgomaster Max, following an attack of bronchial pneumonia. His courageous services to his. own country in the last war are recalled in great detail. Burgomaster Max, who was 70 years of age, sent the following telegram to the Lord Mayor of London at the beginning of September: “When Great Britain, faithful to her promise, courageously faces the" trials of war, I express to you, to the members of the Corporation of your City, and to the population of. London, my feelings of most-enthusiastic comradeship.” Queen Elizabeth visited Burgomaster Max, while he was still conscious. The Minister of the Interior, M. Deveze, will attend the lying-in-state. The funeral has been fixed for November 9, but Burgomaster Max’s will desired the dispensation of official honours, ceremonial speeches, and an elaborate procession.
