MATAKI. The Mataki return for the week ended November 3 was 23 ounces for 135 hours and 11,800 yards. OKARITO. The Okarito washup was 260 z 14dwt for 127 hours. CLUTHA. The Clutha River dredge worked 121 hours for 720 z of gold. WAITAHU. The year’s work of the Waitahu Gold Mining Company consisted of the sluicing of three paddocks and the commencement of n fourth pad doc c The ground worked for the year comprised 10,600 square yards of bottom. Again shortage of water during the year materially inter!ered with gold production. , . The gold won during the six mourns ended January 31, 1939, totalled 2950 z ldwt, when only 716 hours, work was lost through water shortage; during the next six months 109 oz 2dwt were won, the hours lost through water shortage being 2028. The value of the ground had, however, improved dining the latter period. The returns won from the next paddock are not ed in the year’s accounts’, although 24b hours’ stripping and elevating work had been carried out, and that expense included in the accounts for the year. The Blackwater Mines return for October is as follows:-Crushed 42<1 tons, yielding 2015 fine ounces of gold from all sources, including clean-up ot old mill, the value of which, taking gold at £7 8/- per fine ounce, was £l4 914 Working expenses, not including gold duty, were £8370. Development expenditure was £1037, and capital expenditure was £B5O.
