SELECTION OF APPLICANTS

WELLINGTON, November 3. The Minister for Defence (Mi. Jones) said to-day that, the following arrangements had been made f 01 ’ ie selection committee of the Royal New Zealand Air Force to interview applicants throughout New Zealand who have applied for war service as pilots, air observers, or air gunners: North Island: Palmerston North, November 9 and 10; Marton, November 10; Wanganui, November 11; Hawera, November 13; New Plymouth, November 13 and 14; Te Kuiti, November 14; Te Awamutu, November 14; Hamilton, November 15 and 16; Auckland, November 17 to 23; Whangarei, November '24; Paeroa, November 27; Tauranga, November 28; Rotorua, November 28; Whakatane, November 28; Gisborne, November 30; Wairoa, December 1; Napier, December 1 and 2; Dannevirke, December 4; Masterton, December 4; Wellington, December 19 to 23. . South Island: Blenheim, Decembei 6; Nelson, December 6; Westport, December 7; Invercargill, Decembei o and 9; Dunedin, December 11 and 12, Oamaru, December 13; Timaru, December 13; Ashburton, December 14; Christchurch, December 14 and 16. Applicants who are to be interviewed on this occasion will receive notification of the time and place at which they are required to appear before the . committee. Approximately 1700 candidates are to be interviewed, and it is proposed to arrange for medical examination of successful applicants as soon as possible after selection. With few exceptions the applicants to be interviewed on the present tour will* not be required to report for training until after the New Year. Applications received since the closing date of the present list (October 14) will be considered by the committee on a subsequent tour.
