KARORO CEMETERY

[to the editor.] Sir, —After reading the Council's decision against the petition of 57 property holders and residents of Karoro to close the present cemetery, one felt that, with the exception of one councillor, they were shelving or putting off the day when the matter will again have to be brought up. The small plot they have acquired borders right on to the residential area. As the Borough Council is the ruling authoritative body in this connection, why make the lame excuse of putting the onus on the signatories to the petition, of suggesting or finding an alternative site? Councillor Boustridge seemed to be the only member of the Council who realises the position that a fresh site, both for the cemetery and the abattoirs will require to be found in the near future; so why not prepare to act now? I understand that the Health Department, on account of health reasons in this residential area, some time ago suggested that a new site for a cemetery be found further out, namely a terrace out beyond South Beach. Hoping that some abler pen than mine will endeavour to get some action taken in this vital matter. —I am, etc., PROGRESS.
