RAILWAY FATALITY
IMAN KILLED AT TIMARU. [per press association.] TIMARU October 20. Robert Sinclair Smith, aged about; 35. married, with, four children, living) at. Waimato, was killed in a railway accident in Timaru this afternoon. Smith, who was a. member of the C.Y.C., was cu his way with the Waimate troops to the week-end bivouac at. Cave. He was trying to board the 4 p.m. train for Fairlie which had just, left the station- He ran for about a chain alongside ihe train which was travelling slowly up the incline- towards Caroline Bay. After he had passed the guard’s van, he endeavoured to board the last passenger car but slipped ami fell. 'Hie train was at once stopped and Smith, who was terribly injured, was lifted from beneath. the guard's van. He died almost immediately. Smith, who was a. painter, had enlisted with the Special Military Force on AVednesday and was to have been examined by a medical hoard next Thursday.
