STUDENTS ON SERVICE

UNIVERSITY CONCESSIONS [ PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, October 20. Concessions to university students mobilised for defence purposes were considered to-day at. a meeting of the executive committee of the Senate, and the foliowing decisions were reached: (1) That in cases recommended by the professorial boards, candidates who otherwise would have to sit at the forthcoming examinations would be passed without further examination. Notification of passes so granted is being posted to each student concerned. (2) That any student in camp will be permitted to sit in any subject (whether he obtained terms therein or not), this being done to ensure that all possible concessions are made to students whose cases do not fall under (1). Under the amending act the university must have some basis on which to grant concessions. Candidates may rest assured that the results of work presented by them will be considered by a special committee, which will take into consideration the extent to which their studies have been affected by military duties, and the extraordinary conditions under which their examinations are being held. (3) That where candidates do not avail themselves of the above concessions, examination fees will be refunded on early written application. (4) That a special sub-committee has been set up to consider cases that present difficulty, in order to ensure that as far as practicable no student shall suffer by reason of his military duties.
