EMERGENCY PRECAUTIONS

GREY DISTRICT COMMITTEE The Grey district emergency precautions supply committee met last evening, there being present Messrs G. R. Harker (Convener), C. J. Strongman (Superintendent State Mines), W. Mitchell (Office and Clerical Employees), J. Keating (Grocers’ Association), L. J. Armstrong (Warehousemen’s Assn.), Truman (Drapers’ Association), AV. E. Norton (Wholesale Milk Suppliers), J. Brailsford (Clerical Union), E. Hillman (Watersiders’ Union), and AV. H. Parfitt (Secretary). Apologies were received from the Mayor (Mr. F. A. Kitchingham). W. Dick, ,J. Doyle, J. Steel and L. McGlashan. ’The reports of various committees were adopted. It was resolved that the controller of flour supply be asked to store in Greymouth flour sufficient to meet any emergency. It was decided that all committees be directed to make a survey of stocks in hand in Greymouth, also to make arrangements for assembly points and for the working of such points. The matter of coal supplies was discussed, Mr. Strongman going into details of the matter, and in the light of his information it was agreed by the committee that Greymouth would require to be assured of a supply of fifty tons weekly. In a discussion onjhe bread supply, the matter of delivery in case of emergency was considered, and arrangements were made regarding such transport facilities as a contingency might call for. The milk deliver}’ was also discussed, it being considered that a supply of 400 gallons <per day should he assured.
