October 23—Waikato Hunt. October 28 —Banks Peninsula. October 28 —-Rangitikei. Quadroon Scratched i Quadroon broke down in his good leg. when galloped last Thursday, and will not make the trip to Trentham. Uvedale: The Leighon filly Uvedale has gone sore, and it has been decided to cancel the trip to Trentham. In Error: Rabble was accepted for in the Wainui Handicap, at Trentham, tomorrow in error, and is to start in the principal event. Withdrawn: Queen City, Te Kawiti. and La. Coquette have been scratched for all engagements at Trentham. Kentucky and Phaleron /have been withdrawn from the Wellesley Stakes. Class Horse: Centrepoise worked'> strongly over a mile and a-half, at Hastings this week, dashing home the last -three furlongs in 37 3-5 like a class horse. It was a pleasing work-out. Well-bred Juvenile: Cetewayo, ■who is engaged in the Taita Handicap at Trentham, is a halfbrother to Limulus, a smart sprinter own?d by Mr. T. A. Duncan. He is by Phaleron Bay out of Chelae, a sister to the dam of Hall Mark. Fast Seven: Roy Bun drew attention to his prospects at Gore on Saturday and Monday, by a fast gallop over seven furlongs at Riccarton yesterday, with Kilrobe. »

For Rangiora: St. Cedric (Resinous-San Algor), trained at Omoto by V. A. Lee, will be railed to Christchurch on Thursday evening. He is to race at the North Canterbury meeting, at Rangiora, on Monday, and will be ridden by C. Stokes.

Rider for Peerless:

Might and Peerless did a working gallop over a mile at Trentham yesterday. B. H. Morris has been engaged for Peerless to-morrow, and also in the New Zealand Cup, so it is apparent that it is hoped she will soon return to form.

A Likely Favourite: Conflicting reports are current regarding the rider of Centrepoise, who promises to start one of the favourites in the Wellington Handicap. Hastings advices are that he will be ridden by H. Callahan.

Brackets at Trentham: The following horses will be bracketed on the first day’s card:— Taita Handicap: Kehurangi - and Serena. Wainui Handicap: Trench Fight and Winning Rival. October Handicap: Pearl of Asia and Verey Lights. Trench Fight will probably be reserved until the second and third days.

Nightbeam: Nightbeam, winner of the Musket Stakes, for two-year-olds, at Ellerslie, on Monday, is a bay colt by Night Raid from Lady Burleigh, by Paladin from Tormentor, by Martian from Torquato, and was bred at the Elderslie Stud. He was sold as a yearling at Trentham for 325 guineas to Mrs. W. D. Graham, of New Plymouth.

Smart Sprint: . Dictate and Skyrena starred in a fast sprint over half-’a-mile at Riccarton yesterday. Though Dictate disappointed at Washdyke, he ap'parent.y suffered no ill-effects from his race, and can be expected to be prominent at the business end of his races at Trentham, where he invariably races well.

In Great Fettle: The two-year-old Ringcratt sprinted half a mile in a shade under 49. at Wanganui last week, after running the first two furlongs in 24. The Ringmaster colt is in great fettle, and though he has not yet had a race, he is likely to give a good account m himself in the Wellesley Stakes.

A. Stayer • The maiden, Authoress, surprised track watchers at Hastings last week, bv going all the way with Gold Ballad over a mile in 1.46 4-5, the last halt in 53 1-5- Authoress left the impression that staying is her forte, and if she races up to expectations at Ti entham, she may contest the New Zealand Oaks at Riccarton.

Counterblast: ' . The Chokebore sprinter, Counteiblast developed lameness last week q nd did not make the trip to Trentham with Trench Fight, Wild Fox, WinningRival and Great Flight, the other members of Cutts’s team. Winning Rival has gone on the right way since v.iiiDunedin Guineas, and although that success was not impressive it indicated that she has pace and Stamina. She is a lazy galloper, but Riccarton track-watchers expect ner to mSe forward showings at Trentham.

sufficient support for Queen Beth at Orari to indicate that the Gainscourt filly was useful, but sie o-ot away badly and was never nrominent. At Washdyke, on Saturday she was sent out favourite, although she had drawn No. 19 at. a point which unduly favours the inside ° -ses. Queen Beth was not seen until the finish, where she was flymg m third place.

G 7mv°Fo’x a hot favourite, won the Trial Stakes at. Masterton but only niriowlV. K. was not a wholly imm'essive performance, but Gay Fox L least showed' that he has h finishing nm and ho might develop into a useful sort wilh experience. He is a three-year-old brown gelding by Foxbr dgoOni of the Lucullus-W atrarapa ire Auriculas, who was a winner rnnm) the Auckland district and is W -sister to the Avondale Stakes winner To Waipii. At the yearling sales he was purchased b> Mi . Devon for 350 guineas.

Inquisition.: A. Holmes has Inquisition accepted as an unhoppled trotter and as a pacer for Victoria Park on Saturday. The Wrack gelding has disappointed as a pacer, but bred as he is (he is a fullbrother to Mohican) he may make early amends as a trotter.

Brackets: Rollalong and Shadow Boy (J. Bryce) and Pamelas and Replica (D. Bennett), will form two brackets in the Dash Handicap at Greymouth on Saturday. Replica will be remembered for .'a big place dividend on the Greymouth track last season, when trained at Westport. One Member: C. S. Cup Fancies: King’s Play, an early New Zealand Cup favourite, recently transferred to the stable of S. A. Edwards, has receded in popular favour to Fine Art, Lawn Derby and Blair Athol. Lawn Derby, who’ has not yet. arrived from Australia, will be the only one of the tentative New Zealand Cup field not racing in the big sprint at Oamaru on Monday.

Driver for Marsceres: There is a doubt whether G. Brosnan, the trainer of the Man o’ War gelding, has been mentioned as the probable driver if McKendry is not available.

Victoria Park Fields: With an average of 12 horses a race, and the smallest Held 11. the acceptances for the first day (Saturdaj next) Of the Greymoutli Trotting Clubs’s Spring meeting must be considered highly satisfactory, fhe clas.; of the fields is good, and with all the leading Canterbury trainers represented, the prospects for a successful
