CHURCH OF THE GOLDEN GATE.— The Cathedral of Freiburg, founded in the twelfth century, was re-built in the late Gothic style after its destruction by fire in 1484 and later restored in 1898. Of the original church, only the German Romanesque doorway, known as the “Golden Gate,” survives. Henry the Pious and several of his successors are buried in this Cathedral.
