October 23—Waikato Hunt. October 28 —Banks Peninsula. October 28—Rangitikei, Absolve: Absolve, by Solicitor-General, has a great chance of following in Beaulivre’s footsteps by winning the Wellesly Stakes at Trentham on Thursday. Like Beaulivre, Absolve started his winning record at Masterton. Amiss:

Majority bled badly after working on the track at New Plymouth last week, and he is to be turned out for a long spell. Majority has registered some fine performances under big weights, and, if all had gone well with him, he might have reached even greater heights, this season.

Rehandieaps: Rehandicaps for the Waikato Hunt Club’s meeting are: —Hunters’ Hurdles: Lapidarian 101 b, making 9.10. Members Memorial: Royevrus 131 b, now 9.5. Bollard Memorial: Orate 51b, now 9.7. Waikato Hunt Cup: Tupeotu 81b, now 9.13: Mahala 31b now 10.0.

Bright Prospects: Nigger Boy, whose disappointing showing at Dunedin was attributed to a cold, has been working with plenty of dasii, and is expected to make bold showings at Gore in the coming weekend. Nigger Boy is expected to visit Riccartoh next month, when one of his engagements will be in the Canterbury Cup.

Hiding' at Trentliam: Some riding engagements for Wellington are:—B. H. Morris, Malik Kafur, Disdain, Taitama, Play On : Colonel Bogey, Wings of Song; H. Great Performance.’

’ Wardress, who won her first race at Omoto, won her second race in open company when she easily defeated a good field at Washdyke on Saturday. The merit of her performance can be gauged from the fact that she gave the leaders a big start turning from home, and finished so brilliantly that she had the race won 50 yards from the wire. There were a number of New Zealand Cup candidates .in the field, and the Lord Warden mare made them look an ordinary lot. She impresses as a real stayer, which is no suprise in a mare with such stout blood lines. Wardress was not entered for the New Zealand Cup. but she is in the Metropolitan, and will not lack admirers if she starts. Wardress’s breeder, Mrs. B. Thomas, has others of the progeny of Clink running at Omarama, a particularly handsome youngster being by Phar Lap s brother. Friday Night.

Stud Notes: t D The Begum has foaled a colt to Bulandshar. The foal is a brother to High Caste, and a half-brother to Stretto, Mazir, and Arvakur. Astral Flash has been retired from racing and Will be mated with Salmagundi this season. The Colonel Cygnus mare was only lightly raced, but she performed well. Last season she won two races and ■ was four times placed. She is out of the Paper Money mare, Flicker. Spearmaid, the dam ot Nigger Boy and Spanish Lad, is to be mated with Salmagundi. Francolin, the dam ot Nightwings, Dark Flight, and Gold Flight, has produced a filly by Winning Hit and will be mated with SalMiss Redowa, dam of Wild Coon, has a filly by Salmagundi. Corn Queen, dam of the ill-fated Fiord, W J IO met his death at Omoto, has a filly by Iliad, and is booked to Siegfried. Homedale, winner of the Moonee Valiev Cup in 1931, has a filly by Salmagundi. Gobble (dam of Skyrena) -by Tea Tray—Fulsome, by Absurd from the famous Eulogy, has been booked to Siegfried.

AUCKLAND, October 16. The Epsom Handicap was spoilt by a bad start, Mon Acre, Farland, Aero King, and Orate having their chances extinguished. Orewere made most ot the running, and came into the straight ahead of Arvakur, Lacheloi King, Palustre and Bronwen. Ihe last-named came through on the rails inside the distance, to win from Our Jean, who finished gamely after being badly placed in the early stages. Orewere held on to beat Arvakur tor third, and then came Palustre, Lian"ollen, Bachelor King, and Farland. ° A bad start ruined the chances ot half the field in the Spring Handicap. The sufferers were Royevrus, Inver Birthday Boy, Sly Fox, Scotland, Gold Vaals, Royal Appellant and Balmayar, the last-named taking no part in the race. Francis Drake attempted to lead -ill the way, and passing the half mile was followed by Valmint, Golden Shiela, Ned Cuttie, and Hot Box. The leaders retired a furlong from the post, and Golden Sheila came through to win comfortably. Royevrus finished in great style from the middle ot the field to get second, and he looked unlucky to lose. Sly Fox came home solidly,' and he was responsible for another fine performance, under his weight. Birthday Boy was a good fourth, and he would have been much closer had he got away ion terms.
