NEW YORK AIRPORT
BUILT ON RUBBISH DUMP. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] NEW YORK, October 15. The Mayor of New York (Mr. F. La Guardia) dedicated 558 acres at Norr.li Beach, Long Island, six miles from the centre of New York, as a municipal airport. It is built on a refuse dump, and cost between 40,000,000 and 45,000,000 dollars to construct. The airport includes a marine base, a land aeroplane base, and four runways, the longest 6000 feet, and a control tower with a beacon of 13,500 candle-power. BIG BOEING LINERS. KANSAS CITY, October 16. The Trans-Continental and Western Air Lines announces five four-engined air-pressure cabin Boeing liners, carrying 33 passengers in day-time and 25 at night, will be available for the transcontinental service in the Spring. This will also enable stratosphere flying.
