Tho annual conference ot the Pub lie Service Association was opened by Mr. Nash, who expressed npprec.ia.tiGn of the co-operation and assistance received by the Government from tho service, since it took office. The president (Mr. Pound) assured ths Minister of the loyalty of the members of the service, and added that they would cheerfully accent any sacrifice that might, have' to be made. Ho referred to the kindly ndaiiouship existing with the Government, and the kindly way in which the representatives xf the Association had been received by the Prime Minister and Mr. Nash, when they bad occasion to interview them. He mentioned that there were a number of matters of great importance that needed finalising, and he hoped that., perhaps us :t j result of Mr. Nash’s visit to the conference, the Association might expect, some early decision on them. Mr. Nash expressed the belief that, in years to come, there would begreater growth in the Public Service.I and emphasised the importance of those in the service watching costs,' and trying to eliminate waste.
