ROUND-THE-GORGES RACE [BEB FBESB ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, October 10. The first rider from another centre to win the Round-the-Gorges amateur cycle race. T. Waddick (Invercargill), off lamin, was first in a. close finish at the Addington trotting grounds on, Saturday. Waddick finished a length and a-half in front of a. group of 10 riders, so closely bunched that placing them was difficult. His performance is the more remarkable because he only took up cycling us a sport at the end of last year. His main previous success was fastest time in a 66-mile race at Invercargill. The senior 100-mile championship is shared by E. I). Taylor tTechnical) and R. W. Rondel (Papanui). both off lOmin., who dead-heated for second place and fastest time. Their time was 41ir. lOmin 34sec. W. R. Clough (Papanui) also off lOmin., gained the junior championship (fastest, time for rider under 18 years), in 4hr. 58min 4(>sec.
