RATES OF PAY ANNOUNCED. [FEB PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, September 7. The Government has mobilised certain members of the Territorial Force, and of Class 2 of the National Military Reserve for coast defence, and the guarding of vital' points. The Minister of Defence announces that the rates of pay and allowances fixed for these troops will apply also to any other force that may be organised for service. The daily rates of pay are: Private, gunner, etc. 7/-, Lance Bombardier and Lance Corporal, 7/6; Bombardier and Corporal, 8/-; Sergeant, 8/6; C.Q.M.S. and Staff Sergeant, 9/-; Warrant Officer (2nd class), Squadron, Battery or Company S.M., 10/-; Warrant Officer (second class) Regt., and Staff Q.M.S. and Q.M.S. (Artillery) 10/-, Warrant Officer (first class) Regt. S.M. etc., 11/-; Second Lieutenant, 13/-; Lieut. 14/-, Captain 16/-, Major 18/-, Lieut.Colonel 21/-, Colonel 25/-. These rates will not apply to the regular military forces. Civil servants called up, or enlisted for service, will be granted leave of absence without pay, and the amount of their superannuation contributions, while serving, will be paid by the Government.

The dependents’ allowances will be: On account of wife or guardian of a motherless child or children under 16, 3/-; on account of each dependent child' under 16, up to a limit of five children, 1/6; on account of a widowed mother, dependent on a soldier, 1/6. Privates and lance-corporals, carrying out certain special duties, will receive an extra 1/ -a day, and in the case of men required to act as cook, 2/6 a day extra. Whatever a man’s rank the camp allowances are: Colonel 5/-, Lieut.Colonel 5/-, Major 4/-; other commissioned ranks and members of the nursing service 3/-, warrant officers and non-commissioned officers above the rank of sergeant 1/6. Officers and men, alike, will pe required to allot a. portion of their pay for the. benefit of their dependents, the minimum being: Single men 14/- a week, married men without children. £2; with one child £2/15/-; with two children, £3 10/-; with three children, £4. Nurses in military hospitals will receive the following:—Matron, 15/- a day; charge sister 13/-; sister 11/-; staff nurses 9/-. The nurses’ camp allowance is 3/- a day.
