“ON EVE OF BOOM”

BRITISH INDUSTRIALIST’S HOPE.

LONDON, June 15.

“If we can get confidence into this world wo are on the verge of one of the biggest expansions of international trade the world has ever seen,” said Lord Riverdale, the industrialist, yesterday. He was speaking at a luncheon given by the British Standards Institution at the Dorchester.

Mr. Pi. S. Hudson. Secretary to the Department of Overseas Trade, said there was no doubt that standardisation helped to reduce costs, fostered co-operation between manufacturer and consumer, and helped in the problem of securing the availability of stocks and spare parts. After pointing to the latest trade figures as a greatly encouraging sign, Mr. Hudson continued: “I have been doing a little bit of modest commercial travelling myself. When I. came back I consulted members of the business and commercial community who serve on my Overseas Development Council. “Their experience coincided on many points with the impressions I had formed myself. They agreed that visits by principals abroad were the only way by which it was possible to make sure that the individual requirements of markets were properly met.”
