The Hokitika Chib, under whose supervision the j tournament is being conducted, had a i successful day, members heading the men’s and women’s qualifying rounds, whilst the club’s teams also won the Dalgliesh Shield and the. Women’s Shield, from Westport. The results were as follow, the players being from Hokitika, except where otherwise indicated: — Men’s Championship. The following eight players qualified:— R. Dalgliesh Shield. The Dalgliesh Shield, played for by (Vest Coast club teams, was won by Jokitika from Westport, the holders'or some seasons past. The scores were: Hokitika (G. Adamson 77-78, k. Chesney 79-84, A des Forges 80-82, El. Steel 82-88) 647; Westport G 59; Ireymouth A 660; Greymouth B 740; Jreymouth C 759. ROTORUA TOURNAMENT [PEE pbess association.] ROTORUA, August 23. After the second day’s play in the Rotorua open amateur golf tournament the following remain in the championship:—C. H. Wells (Gisborne), S. G. Longuet (Hutt), P. Ralph (Remuera), M. D. Carr (Rotorua), E. S. Toogood (Gisborne), R. H. Glading (Hamilton), R. L. Craig (Taumarunui), J. E. Stedman (Maungakelkei). Pax Smith, the present New Zealand amateur champion, was eliminated by Ralph, 1 up, after Smith had been in a commanding position. Stedman eliminated H. D. Brinsden, a Titirangi scratch player, who is a previous winner of the Rotorua championship. ..The finals will be played on Friday. AUSTRALIAN TEAM FOR N.Z. MELBOURNE, August 23. The Australian Golf Union decided that steps be taken to inaugurate reciprocal matches between Australia and New Zealand, and that an amateur team visit New Zealand this year in response to the New Zealand Golf Association’s invitation. The team will consist of five, including a manager. AUSTRALIAN PLAY-OFF MELBOURNE, August 23. Ferrier and Keane to-day won the play-off for the national foursomes championship, defeating Payne and Duffy at the 23rd hole.
