POST OFFICE SAVINGS BANK Au interesting feature of the latest Statistical Summary issued by the Reserve Bank of New Zealand is an analysis of the accounts according to size in the Post Office Savings Bank as at March 31 in the last three years. This reveals that the decline in total deposits which began in September, 1938, has been caused by the depletion of the larger accounts —that, is, accounts of £3OO and upwards. The total number of accounts at March 31, 1939, was 940,822, an increase of 26,017 on the 1938 figure, and of 65,965 on the 1937 figure. As accounts of less than £3OO increased in 1939 by 30,2:’,1 on the 1938 figure, the larger accounts were fewer by 4214. The 1939 total of accounts of £3OO and upward was greater by 430 than the 1937 total, but notable decreases occurred in the number of accounts between £lOOO and £2OOO, which fell from 7325 to 7078, in the number between £2OOO and £3OOO which fell from 1230 to 1178, and in the number between £BOO and £9OO, which fell from 2699 to 2547.
