INCREASE. IN TAXATION [By CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] MELBOURNE, August 23. In the Victorian Assembly the Premier, Mr. Dunstan, to-day introduced the State Budget. An increase in income tax, which is designed to yield about £350,000 to assist the hospitals, is a feature of the - budget. There is, however, no increase in the unemployment tax, which last year yielded more than the £1,840,000 estimated. It was originally expected that the year would end with a surplus of £12,000, but the drought and railway losses and other causes have converted it to a deficit of £BOO.

The tax increases are:- Company tax, from 1/10 point 575 d in the pound, to 2/-; personal taxation 6d to 71d in the pound, rising to a maximum of l/93d The property rates range from 1/2 to 3/4 in the pound.
