[BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] MURDERER EXECUTED. SYDNEY, August 24. John Trevor Kelly was executed, this morning, for the murder of Constance Somerlad. EUROPEAN REFUGEES CANBERRA, August 22. Nearly 4000 European refugees have already entered Australia, under a special plan that was formulated last year. Under this plan. 15,000 are to be admitted within three years. German refugees, including Austrians. totalled 3,224, and Czechs 464. Italian migrants are also arriving in Australia at the rate of 50 per month. AIR-MAIL SURCHARGES CANBERRA, August 23. Air. Menzies, Prime Minister, has announced that the Government has decided to retain the existing surcharges on the Empire and internal air-mail services. It also has decided that a similar surcharge shall be imposed on air-mail that is carried on the trans-Tasman service, when it is inaugurated.
The air-mail rates at present imposed are threepence per half-ounce surcharge, plus twopence per half ounce postage.
